Honouring Truth & Reconciliation Day

A Day of Reflection and Unity

On September 28, 2024, ahead of Truth and Reconciliation Day, we came together to honour the stories, resilience, and strength of First Nation communities across Canada. This day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, provides us the opportunity to listen, to learn, and to commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of healing and understanding.

We reflected on the lasting impact of residential schools in Canada. The children who were forced to attend and those who never came home. It is important to continue to educate others and bring awareness with creative outlets such as face painting for children, dancers and drummers, and food.

We are deeply grateful to the Caldwell First Nation and Mississauga of the Credit communities for joining us in commemorating this important day. Through powerful song, dance, and storytelling, they reminded us of the importance of truth, cultural pride, and community.

A heartfelt thank you to the talented singers: Poj Walker, Talon Bressette, Kelly Kiyoshk, Stacey Nehdee, and Aaron Dolson, and to the incredible dancers: Herb Snake, Dante Kewageshig, Alicia Kewageshig, Jaycee Whiteeye, Tayshawn Whiteeye, and Makoonse Squash—your performances moved and inspired us.

Let us carry these stories forward, not just today, but every day—working together for truth, justice, and reconciliation.
